If it's been done...
I spoke to a group of builders about The Breakthrough's 7 foundation habits for success recently. One guy kept arguing the point, saying it was all easy to say but the reality was different. He complained that clients expected him to take calls and meetings in the evening and on weekends. Sometimes the business had to come before everything else. He couldn’t possibly limit his hours because it all depended on this and that etc etc. It just wasn’t possible for him to adopt these habits.
Then one of our members spoke up. He said that a few months after starting one of our programmes he made a decision to tell all new clients that he would return all calls and emails within 2 hours during the working week, but as a husband and a father he was not available in the evenings or on weekends (Habit 2: Limit Your Hours). There have been times when he has chosen to be honest with clients and tell them he can’t meet at the time suggested because he was attending his son’s sports day (Habit 1: Health, Family, Work – in that order). And he makes sure to disqualify prospects who don’t show professional respect (Habit 7: Fire Your Worst Customers).
So my advice to the argumentative guy was simple. Stop complaining. If it’s been done, then it is possible. If you’re not doing it, it’s your choice. The dumbest thing you can do is make your choice and then resent it because you don’t feel like you’ve got a choice.
You’ve got a choice with everything in your life and business. You may have to do some work to find out what that choice is, and it will come with its own price which you may or may not be willing to pay (will the grumpy builder enrol in our Business Freedom Plan? Will he heck). You can change everything and anything in your life.
And if you don’t change your current reality, then you’re choosing it.
I’d love to hear your stories about choices you’ve made – hit “post comment” below and tell me in a few sentences what choices you made when you felt stuck.
